About UF Pet Emergency Treatment Services, Ocala
UF Pet Emergency Treatment Services (PETS) is the University of Florida’s after-hours emergency and critical care facility for pets in Ocala and the surrounding area. Designed to serve when local veterinary clinics are closed, PETS provides urgent, life-saving care for dogs and cats facing sudden injuries or illnesses. Its mission is to give pet owners access to skilled emergency care during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, when help is often hardest to find.
The facility is staffed by highly trained emergency veterinarians and support teams with expertise in critical care medicine. They are equipped to handle a wide range of emergencies, including trauma, poisoning, respiratory distress, seizures, severe bleeding, and acute illness. Advanced diagnostic tools such as blood work and imaging help quickly identify the problem, while immediate treatment and stabilization keep pets safe until further care is determined.
PETS accepts walk-in patients without appointments and uses a triage system to prioritize critical cases. Depending on the situation, pets may be treated and discharged, admitted for monitoring, or transferred to the University of Florida’s main veterinary hospital or another specialty center for advanced care. Throughout the process, the staff communicates clearly with pet owners and primary veterinarians to ensure seamless follow-up and continued treatment.
