About Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ & Owners’ Association (FTBOA)
The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ & Owners’ Association (FTBOA) is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Ocala, Florida, dedicated to supporting and promoting the state’s thriving Thoroughbred industry. Representing more than 1,300 breeders and owners, the FTBOA works to strengthen Florida’s position as one of the premier horse breeding regions in the world. Its mission is to encourage investment in Florida-bred horses, protect industry interests, and celebrate the state’s rich equine heritage.
As the official breed registry for Florida, the FTBOA manages the registration of Florida-bred and Florida-sired racehorses. It also administers incentive programs that distribute millions of dollars in awards each year to breeders, stallion owners, and horse owners whose Florida-bred horses succeed on the track. The organization oversees the prestigious Florida Sire Stakes series, a racing program designed to showcase young Florida-sired horses and boost their value in the marketplace.
Beyond financial support, the FTBOA acts as a central hub for industry communication and education. Members gain access to important updates on regulations, legislative advocacy, and market trends. The association publishes Wire to Wire and The Florida Horse, two respected industry news resources. Its headquarters in Ocala also features the FTBOA Museum & Gallery, which preserves the history of Florida’s Thoroughbred racing and breeding success through exhibits, trophies, and memorabilia.
